FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Hoosick Falls, NY – February 1, 2024
We are pleased to announce that Eric Whiting, RA, ASAI, Director of Design and Senior Architect at Saratoga Associates, has been appointed as a member to the Village of Hoosick Falls Historic Preservation Commission, effective January 10, 2024.
The Village of Hoosick Falls Historic Preservation Commission, established on December 13, 2023, is a vital institution dedicated to the preservation of the rich historical fabric of the community. Comprising no fewer than five members appointed by the Village Board, the commission brings together individuals with demonstrated significant interest, competence, knowledge, or commitment to historic preservation. Members are drawn from various disciplines, including architecture, history, archaeology, historic preservation, or closely related fields.
The purpose of the Commission is comprehensive, with key responsibilities that include conducting inventories of significant historic buildings, structures, objects, sites, and historic districts within the Village. This information will be meticulously recorded and maintained at the Village Offices. Additionally, the Commission will play a pivotal role in recommending criteria for the selection of historic entities to be placed on the Village Register of Historic Places, as well as suggesting items for inclusion.
Eric Whiting’s wealth of experience as the Director of Design at Saratoga Associates, combined with his passion for historic preservation, positions him as an invaluable addition to the Commission. His role will involve coordinating efforts with other agencies on local, county, state, and federal levels to classify historical landmarks. As a member, Eric will contribute to public education programs, preservation workshops, and recommendations to the Village Board on matters affecting historic places or districts.
In response to this appointment, Eric Whiting expressed his enthusiasm, stating, “Growing up in the northeast, I have a strong sense of place ingrained in my spirit. And part of what makes a place special is the sense of its place in time, including most importantly its architectural character. It’s what keeps me tied to this part of the world and indeed one of the reasons that I chose to build my home in Hoosick Falls. I look forward to working with the other members and the public to keep the community’s architectural fingerprint vibrant.”
With a legacy spanning over five decades, Saratoga Associates proudly holds a significant role in the historic preservation community. Our enduring partnerships with NYS OPRHP (New York’s State Office of Parks, Recreation, and Historic Preservation), SHPO (State Historic Preservation Office), communities, and special interest groups reflect our commitment to preserving New York’s historical treasures.
