Now, more than ever, we as designers have the ability to reflect and prepare for future projects. In this time of crisis, we are hyper aware of the impacts of national- and state-emergencies to our communities, businesses, and personal lives.
We all have a responsibility to create resilient systems that not only handle, but predict future crises. Every year natural disasters due to climate change affect every region of New York State. However, an extraordinary legislation enabled a $3 Billion Bond Act for environmental restoration and flood resilience, including shoreline restoration, open space preservation, climate mitigation and a program for voluntary buy-outs.
This is a time for renewal. If we continue to invest in our infrastructures we will not only create thousands of middle-class jobs, but save money in the long-run.
