10 Years of I Love My Park Day Success

A Decade of Preservation and Conservation

I Love My Park Day is an annual statewide event, organized by Parks & Trails New York (PTNY) in partnership with the New York State Office of Parks, Recreation and Historic Preservation (OPRHP), the Department of Environmental Conservation (DEC), and Local Friends groups to celebrate and enhance New York’s parks and historic sites and bring visibility to the entire park system and its needs. Over 5,400 volunteers – contributing to 16,00 volunteer hours – came out to show their support for I Love My Park Day. With 140 events across the state, 50 Friends groups, and 12 corporate groups, the participation contributed an amazing effort despite pandemic restrictions!

We were thrilled to be a sponsor this year. The environmental impact of volunteers consisted of:

  • 660+ Bags of trash being removed
  • 450+ gardens created & updated
  • 360+ trees being planted
  • 180+ bags of invasive species removed
  • 80+ miles of trails improved
  • 60+ picnic tables repaired, built, & painted
  • 20+ miles of shoreline & beach cleaned
  • Countless painting and cleaning projects completed

#ILMPD is an important event to support our local parks and recreational spaces. After a year of restrictions, our parks were places we were still able to enjoy. That’s why it was so important to give back to the environment that gives so much to us.

Don’t forget to save the date for next year’s I Love My Park Day, May 7, 2022!
