Enhancing Main Street in Waddington
About the Project
The Village has received funding from the NYS Department of State via the New York Forward program to develop branding and a marketing strategy, as well as to make improvements to Main Street.
Downtown Branding Initiative
The Downtown Waddington branding initiative will expand regional awareness of Waddington as a home for year-round arts, music, and cultural events, welcoming visitors through enhanced signage and coordinated marketing efforts. The process will include the development of a new village logo, slogan, and marketing materials to promote Downtown Waddington as a destination. This effort will be led by Trampoline Advertising and Design Co.
Transforming Main Street
Nestled directly along the St. Lawrence Seaway, Waddington welcomes boaters and is renowned for world-class fishing. The village’s Main Street is approximately 1,000 LF, connecting NY-37 (aka Lincoln Ave, featuring the Great Lakes Seaway Trail) to St. Lawrence Avenue, featuring Island View Park. It features historic architecture, local restaurants, and businesses that add to the “hometown” charm and culture, providing a backdrop for outdoor gatherings and community events. The streetscape transformation will be led by Saratoga Associates.
The Process
Saratoga Associates was hired to develop designs and construction documents for Main Street.
A kick-off meeting with the Village was held in early July and a local project committee has been established.
Concepts are being developed that will test different options for transforming Main Street. The goals are to create gateways at either end of Main Street, improve pavements, incorporate landscape plantings, and integrate signage, seating, and lighting that are consistent with the branding initiative. The concepts and cost estimates will inform priorities and identify any elements that should be phased. The target is to construct the improvements in the 2027 season!

Main Street Goals
- Facilitate unique downtown festivals and activities while also supporting local businesses by increasing the accessibility and appeal of Main Street and drawing additional foot traffic.
- Add gateway features to improve the visibility and attractiveness of the primary business district to motorists, as well as to cyclists traveling the Great Lakes Seaway Trail, drawing them from NY-37 onto Main Street and toward Island View Park.
- Provide enhancements to support the Village’s vision to become a walkable downtown, showcasing rich historic architecture while creating access to amenities for residents and improving the visitor experience.
