Poughkeepsie, NY

East Gate Plaza

Spanning the Hudson River between Poughkeepsie and Highland, NY, the remarkable Walkway Over the Hudson reclaims a 6,768 feet (1.28 miles) abandoned railroad bridge as a public promenade and regional trail connector.

Saratoga Associates is pleased to have worked with the NYS Office of Parks Recreation and Historic Preservation to design architectural and site improvements that enhance the visitor experience and facility function at the East and West Approaches of the Walkway.

The East Gate Plaza is the last project slated for completion along the Walkway Over the Hudson. The project includes a street level welcome sign, terraced seating, and entrance from Washington Street. Elevated above street view, along the walkway, Saratoga Associates designed the new Friends of the Walkway pavilion that provides a more refined and organized system for providing information and selling souvenirs. Additional features include rainwater harvesting for facility irrigation use.
