Double H Ranch provides specialized programs and year-round support for children and their families dealing with life-threatening illnesses. As part of a previous Master Planning effort, Saratoga Associates identified that a goal for Double H Ranch is to create a “Heart of Camp.” A central location with views of Lake Vanare was selected where morning meetings, talent shows, and presentations could be held.

Utilizing the existing slope, a “Camp-A-Theater” was designed into the hillside. Keeping with the camp’s desire to keep all groups together regardless of mobility, each row of the amphitheater has been designed to be accessible to all. Care was taken to select materials that were in keeping with the camp’s character, while allowing for accessibility and accounting for stormwater runoff within the site itself. The end result is one where every camper can feel welcome and included within the “Heart of Camp” for various types of group activities.
