Southside Improvements
Saratoga Associates was retained by the City of Amsterdam to develop design and construction documents to implement one of its Downtown Revitalization Initiative projects.
These improvements encourage pedestrian activity along Bridge Street and connect the Mohawk Valley Gateway Overlook (MVGO) pedestrian bridge to the Southside’s emerging shopping and restaurant scene. The project includes the creation of an elevated boardwalk and improvements to the sidewalks, streetscapes, and civic spaces adjacent to the former Chalmers Mill site.
Creating active and leisure spaces, this project enhances the anchor to Amsterdam’s Southside neighborhood and reconnects the community to the Mohawk River.
Saratoga Associates closely collaborated with the City of Amsterdam to develop a design that could be phased. Saratoga worked with New York State DEC to identify permitting needs and considerations for constructing on a brownfield site adjacent to a flood wall while still providing a visual connection to the Mohawk River.
