Our Projects
Battery Energy Storage Systems
Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS) introduce industrial-scale structures and associated infrastructure into rural, suburban, and even urban landscapes. These large industrial components often create a strong visual contrast, which can lead to a perceived reduction in the overall visual quality of the adjacent area .
Our specialized Visual Impact Assessment (VIA) service provides a comprehensive, objective analysis of the potential visual effects of proposed BESS projects. We assist developers, planning teams, and stakeholders in effectively managing the aesthetic integration of BESS facilities into the surrounding environment. Our goal is to minimize adverse visual impacts, support site selection and design optimization, and ensure successful navigation of local, state, and federal planning and permitting requirements.

Project Highlight
Wendel Depot Battery Storage Facility
New Leaf Energy is developing a 105 MW (gross) / 4-hour battery energy storage system that will enhance the flexibility and reliability of the electric grid without creating emissions or waste products. The Project will charge the batteries from power supplied by the electric grid during times of ample system supply, usually aligned with the time when solar and wind energy resources are generating electricity. The Project will then dispatch the electric power back onto the electric grid during times of peak demand.
Saratoga Associates provided visual consulting services, including the creation of a comprehensive three-dimensional computer model and photo-realistic simulations. Visualizations were used to accurately and objectively communicate the visual characteristics of the project during the municipal consultation and stakeholder engagement process.
Aerial perspective visualizations were created using a creative combination of 3D visualization tools including 3D Studio Max, SketchUp, and Lumion design and rendering software.
