Westcott Beach the First to Implement Park System Cottage Design

Saratoga Associates, in their work with the New York State Office of Parks, Recreation and Historic Preservation, has developed several  cottage designs, with Westcott Beach State Park the latest example, placing 10 units high on a ridge overlooking Lake Ontario.

The custom designed buildings are carefully situated atop a wooded ridge, designed and oriented to take advantage of sweeping views over Lake Ontario while remaining inconspicuous in the natural landscape. The buildings are fully ADA accessible and include; a full bath, two bedrooms, a kitchen, a loft space overlooking the living room, and a gas fireplace. A gravel road, accessible parking, stone dust walkways, native plantings, and implementing green infrastructure practices are all part of the site elements that combine function with aesthetic, which acknowledge the challenges of shallow bedrock throughout the site– permeable paver patios, stormwater storage under the roadway, and a roadside swale to convey runoff to surface treatment.

Construction on the cottages began in the fall of 2018, with an estimated completion date of Spring of 2020.
