Donald Minnery is a Senior Principal at the firm and has specialized in college and university campus planning and design since his arrival at Saratoga Associates in 1985. Don was first employed as the official state historic architect for South Dakota and later, Mississippi. His interest in the past underlies his current work in higher education as well. When taking on a new project, Don says his first step is to understand its context: “Every project is unique, whether working with state schools that consist of large concrete buildings from the 1960s and 1970s, or with older colleges where brick is covered with ivy. When a project is complete, I want someone to sense that the campus has a human feel and scale to it- to feel welcome and comfortable.” This sensitivity to history and place is a constant theme throughout his work.  Mr. Minnery’s Higher Ed practice includes planning and design from small private liberal arts campuses to state institutions.  The breadth of his work, though concentrated in the northeast is national in scope from Juneau, Alaska, to Brunswick, Maine.
