Washington Park Erosion Mitigation Study

Washington Park Erosion Mitigation Study

City of Albany Department of General Services, Albany, NY

Washington Park is Albany’s premier park and is the site for many beloved and renowned regional festivals, events and activities. This historic park (c. 1871) was inspired by a design prepared by notable the landscape architect Frederick Law Olmsted. Although the general layout of the park has changed little over time, the construction of asphalt roadways and widespread erosion has impacted the park walkways and drainage-ways.

Saratoga Associates was retained by the City of Albany to prepare a Park Erosion Mitigation Study. The plan provides a holistic analysis of the entirety of the park and its environs. The study provides a complete analysis focused on existing conditions and recommended solutions to mitigate the erosion problems.  The evaluation and recommendations considered the historical significance of the Park, which is currently guided by the Washington Park Conservancy.
