Town of Kinderhook, Kinderhook, New York
Saratoga Associates, commissioned by The Kinderhook Trail Committee proposed a plan for a non-motorized recreational trail system to create safe and attractive recreational links throughout the town. The trail system provides pedestrian and bicycle routes for community youth, residents, and visitors who come to enjoy the area’s visual beauty, built and rural heritage, and open space. It also provides opportunities for improving health and physical fitness, increased community pride and enhanced economic activity.
The Recreation Trail Design and Feasibility Study provides a technical and aesthetic analysis of the most logical and desirable trails routes for use as a policy guide for orderly investment, development, and maintenance of the system. The study evaluated existing conditions, coordinated with previous planning studies, and identified preferred trail routes based on desired destinations and available rights-of-way.
The plan creates a unified recreational resource including coordinated amenities, including signage, benches, shelters, bike racks, and controlled access gateways. There are also functional considerations including trail surfacing, trail width, clearance, grading and drainage.
