Oswego Local Waterfront Revitalization Plan

Oswego Local Waterfront Revitalization Plan

City of Oswego, Oswego, New York

As a gateway to the NYS Canal System, Oswego plays an important role in regional and New York State commerce, culture, and tourism.

Saratoga Associates was contracted by the City of Oswego to assist in preparation of their Local Waterfront Revitalization Plan (LWRP). The LWRP, funded by the NYS Department of State, enables waterfront communities to holistically review the status of their waterfronts and to consider options going forward to revitalize their shorelines and communities.

The goal of LWRP is to establish Oswego’s waterfront as a point of connection. Plan objectives include: increase public access to the water; treat the waterfront as one of the region’s most important economic development opportunities; better use the City’s existing waterfront assets, including Fort Ontario; increase tourism; encourage residential development and support future development at the Port of Oswego.

Saratoga Associates has worked with many communities in Upstate New York to revitalize their waterfronts and the LWRP grant program has proven to be an effective way to get the revitalization ball rolling for both the public and private sectors.
