The Hudson River waterfront in the City of Rensselaer has long been isolated from the community by industrial land uses. Many of these uses have become obsolete and abandoned, leaving the riverfront underutilized and uninviting.
Saratoga Associates was retained by a private developer to prepare a revitalization strategy for a prominent 18-acre riverfront parcel in a manner that responds to viable market niches and community values. The waterfront development plan recommends a pedestrian oriented, mixed-use district that includes entertainment, office, and high density residential space that is compatible with adjoining neighborhoods. A public promenade and trail connect the new district with commercial waterfront areas and residential neighborhoods.
A private/public partnership was proposed to generate necessary capital for infrastructure construction.
