Rediscovering the First Wilderness Heritage Corridor

Rediscovering the First Wilderness Heritage Corridor

Warren County Board of Supervisors, Adirondack Region, New York State

Sponsored by the Warren County Board of Supervisors, the Rediscovering the First Wilderness Heritage Corridor Plan provides a coherent regional redevelopment strategy for seven rural waterfront communities along the Upper Hudson River in Warren County, New York. The plan focused on creating economic and community development opportunities for the communities and region, based on the river’s resources, community’s character and amenities, and the Upper Hudson Railroad. The program, delivered through the development and marketing concept of “The First Wilderness”, provides tourists, visitors and residents with a unified experience in the corridor.

As a result of the development of the plan, specific public infrastructure investments and private development projects are being implemented. In addition, other regions have used the plan as a template to build their own redevelopment strategies.
