City of Glen Cove, NY
The City of Glen Cove sought design guidance in developing options for expanding its 19 acre Maccarone stadium and its associated amenities. The Stadium is adjacent to Glen Cove Creek and an 8.8 acre site which is currently comprised of industrial and waste management facilities, an asphalt plant, a Nassau County Department of Public works facility, and several smaller commercial enterprises. The western end of the Stadium site also abuts a former landfill site.
Saratoga Associates was the lead firm, in the development of a Vision Plan and a Schematic Design for the redevelopment and repurposing of this site, as well as identifying proposed improvements to the Maccarone Stadium. The Vision Plan outlines a strategic Plan for the staged redevelopment of the abutting Glen Cove industrial site, to include complimentary sports facilities, such as practice fields, a children’s play ground, an indoor practice facility and waterfront access along new public boardwalk along the Glen Cove Creek, expanded parking , and comprehensive landscape improvements. The former landfill site has been redesigned to provide a multipurpose field for Lacrosse and soccer, with new stadium seating and restroom facilities.
The goal of this project was to create both an expanded recreational resource for the community, and to create a major little league baseball complex that could host regional tournaments. As a result of the proposed new improvements to this complex, the City of Glen Cove has secured an agreement to host regional tournaments at this facility.
