Canal Region Gateway Visitor Center

Canal Region Gateway Visitor Center

Town of Saratoga, New York

The Lakes to Locks Passage Byway follows the interconnected waterways of the Upper Hudson River and Champlain Canal region. Operated by a not-for profit organization, the Byway seeks to unify the region’s historic, cultural, natural and recreational resources to establish a world-class destination for national and international travelers.

Saratoga Associates was commissioned to prepare a Conceptual Design Study for the Canal Region Gateway Visitor Center in the Village of Schuylerville; a key Waypoint Community Heritage Center along the Byway. The center will provide connectivity to the stories and experiences of the region’s waterfront communities.

Saratoga Associates developed a comprehensive strategy to evaluate site and building design opportunities. Schematic design included the development of programmatic needs for the Visitor Center, assessment of existing site conditions and former Town Hall structure, preparation of a conceptual design for the site and timber frame structure, and development of a cost estimate to inform funding needs for the project.
