Village of Lake George, New York
Lake George Village, in New York’s scenic Adirondack Park is a renowned tourist destination. Canada Street, the village’s main drag is alive with resorts, events, arcades, museums, shopping and vibrant nightlife during the summer season. Saratoga Associates has been working with the Village of Lake George to improve their streetscape for over 15 years, and was retained to redesign the east side of Canada Street as it was badly in need of site improvements to improve flow of multi-modal transportation and remedy dangerous conditions that were a result heavy traffic over the years.
The Canada Street Complete Streets and Green Infrastructure Project redesigned the streetscape to enable safe access for all users, including pedestrians, bicyclists, motorists and transit riders of all ages and abilities. The streetscape design makes it easy to park, cross the street, walk to restaurants and shops, and access the scenic lakeshore. Sidewalks, pedestrian crosswalks and on-street parking systems were redesigned to calm traffic, reinforce pedestrian systems and enhance the visual quality of the downtown streetscape.
The Project also required use of sustainable infrastructure to minimize storm water runoff into pristine Lake George and demonstrate the Village’s commitment to environmental sustainability. Site improvements included point source control permeable pavers and solar powered parking meter pay and display pedestals.
