Adirondack Museum, Blue Mountain Lake, New York
The Adirondack Museum is dedicated to preserving the history of the Adirondacks. The museum’s galleries tell the unique story of the Adirondacks and its people. The Boats and Boating exhibit illustrates the importance of boats for transportation and for leisure in the Adirondacks.
As part of a renovation to the Boats and Boating exhibit, Saratoga Associates worked collaboratively with museum curators and members of the Adirondack community to design a visually inspiring outdoor courtyard at the entrance to the gallery area. The design enhances outdoor pedestrian flow and focuses visual access to museum displays. The entry design includes an Adirondack themed reflection pool and courtyard.
The project improves the pedestrian experience and provides universal access to the museum exhibits and auditorium in a creative and harmonious manner. Courtyard pavers and seat wall reflect the rustic character of museum displays and landscape plantings include native materials to maintain visual continuity with the surrounding forest.
