Beech Ridge Wind Farm Visual Resource Assessment

Invenergy Wind, LLC, Greenbrier County, West Virginia

Invenergy Wind, LLC proposed a 186 MW, 124-turbine project in the picturesque mountains of Greenbrier County, WV.  Understandably, local residents and environmental organizations expressed concern over the project’s potential impact on scenic resources and regional tourism.

The Beech Ridge Visual Resource Assessment provides a detailed assessment of project visibility consistent with the requirements of West Virginia Order Number 255.1 concerning environmental impacts of electric power generating projects. Using accepted methodologies, the assessment identified and evaluated numerous visually sensitive resources. Viewshed analysis and photographic simulations illustrated the nature and degree of potential visual impact. In addition, the assessment provided supplemental analysis of historic structures and districts specifically identified by the West Virginia State Historic Preservation Office.

In response to intervener challenges, Saratoga Associates provided written and oral testimony in West Virginia Public Service Commission administrative hearings that assisted the project sponsor successfully gain all necessary regulatory approvals.
